Hampta Pass is located at an altitude of 4,270 meters (14,039 ft) on the top of the Pir Panjal ranges of the Himalaya of Himachal Pradesh. This sightseeing point is only 15 km from Manali because this place is on the top of the mountain so it is reached directly on the mountain by the road traveling through a beautiful circular path. To go there you ascend to the top of the mountain leaving behind the green forests and move forward to the cold desert area. You will feel here an infinite peace when you reach here on the snow-capped peaks.
This place is almost at the same height as Rohtang pass so this place is closed during winter due to heavy snowfall. Although Rohtang Pass is opened for tourists after the 15th of May. But Hampta is open almost all day of the year; this place is closed for tourists only during few days of winter when it snows heavily.
This place is an option to reduce the crowd of Rohtang Pass that a lot of tourists leave Rohtang Pass and come to visit at this place. Hapta Pass is also known as a trekking route, the trekking for this place starts from Manali and ends at Spiti.
There is a hydroelectricity project on the height of Hampta Pass, because of this, permission, is needed to go there keeping in mind the safety reasons. The barrier is located near Manali from where you can go there only after getting permission.
There are many snow activities you can do there along with enjoying the beauty of the mountains.
